When it comes to choosing the right rug, few materials rival the beauty and performance of pure wool. At Tallira, most of our rugs are handmade from 100% pure wool, including renowned New Zealand Wool, celebrated for its softness, strength, and natural lustre.
Wool is timeless, durable, and incredibly comfortable underfoot - making it one of the most practical and luxurious choices for any interior.

Wool rugs bring together natural beauty and everyday functionality. They offer warmth, comfort, and longevity while being gentle on the planet. Here’s why wool continues to be one of the most trusted materials in rug making.

Sheep’s natural oils repel water, dust, and dirt; helping a wool rug stay thicker, plusher, and more vibrant in high-traffic areas for longer. Its natural elasticity means it bounces back beautifully, retaining its shape and texture over time.

Wool is naturally water-repellent, meaning spills can often be blotted before they absorb. A simple, quick clean helps prevent stains, making it one of the easiest natural fibres to care for.

A GENTLE VACUUM REGULARLY:
To remove any dust and debris.
NO BRUSH OR POWERHEAD:
Do not use a brush head or motorised power brush head on the vacuum cleaner on loop-pile or highly textured weaves, as it will cause rug damage.
SCOOP UP SOLIDS:
Gently lift off as much of the foreign material as possible.
BLOT, DON’T RUB:
Use an absorbent white paper towel and blot out as much liquid as possible. Also, dry using a cold air fan or blot dry.
DO NOT SCRUB RUGS:
It can cause permanent pile damage/disruption.
DO NOT STEAM CLEAN. DRY CLEAN ONLY:
Using a professional rug or carpet cleaner is highly recommended.
DO NOT USE DETERGENT DIRECTLY ON A RUG:
Clean with appropriate cleaning agents and ensure never to apply detergent directly to a rug. Always test any detergent/cleaning solutions on an inconspicuous area of a rug first and if any damage is noticed from the cleaning product, the cleaning solution should not be used. Do not continue to use it if colour lifts off when blotted with a white paper towel or if a watermark remains on the rug from the cleaning product.
A PROFESSIONAL CLEAN IS RECOMMENDED EVERY YEAR.
Dry clean only by a reputable rug or carpet cleaner.

Unlike synthetic fibres, wool can breathe. It absorbs moisture in humid conditions and releases it when the air is dry, helping to naturally balance the atmosphere within your home.

Wool is naturally non-allergenic and can absorb and filter some unwanted airborne toxins and odours. It’s resistant to bacteria, mould, and dust mites; making it a great choice for creating a cleaner, more comfortable living environment.
Wool is inherently flame resistant — it’s slow to ignite, burns gradually, and is easy to extinguish. This makes it one of the safest natural fibres you can bring into your home.
