Introducing the JARJUMS Collection

July 16, 2016

The Rug Collection together with Wirriimbi Designs are excited to present JARJUMS, a special collection of rugs each designed by 6 Indigenous children from Sydney’s Darlington Public School.

This unique arts engagement program, especially for Indigenous children, saw them working closely with respected Aboriginal artist Chris Edwards and Simon Robinson from The Rug Collection to create a body of work inspired by their culture.

The children attended a number of workshops designed to facilitate a cultural knowledge exchange with their Elders, to learn about Aboriginal culture through storytelling and through hands-on art exercises.

The budding young designers developed an array of concept designs that chronicle stories from their families and represent a special part of their culture. Six of the designs have been developed into a limited collection of rugs we call “JARJUMS”, the Aboriginal word for “children”.

The rugs are pieces of art that offer truly unique design but also emphasise the importance of supporting the arts and Indigenous youth. We are extremely proud of this collection and we hope you love it as much as we do.
